Roulette

Roulette is one of the oldest gambling games in the world. The game has reportedly been played since at least the 17th century. It is likely that this board game will still be played centuries later, when video slots and other modern gambling games have been forgotten in the darkness of history. The secret to the popularity of the roulette game probably lies in its easy rules and excellent return percentage. Depending on the rules, the roulette return percentage can rise to as high as 98.65 percent.

Roulette rules

Roulette may seem like an awkward and complicated game at first glance. The game table shows how many mysterious trays should be placed in the chips, and the rules of the game are usually nowhere to be found. No worries, as the rules of roulette are really simple in the final games.

The game begins with placing bets. The center area of the roulette table has 37 columns of numbers (numbers 0-36) and there are areas on the sides for bets to be placed on different targets. Bets placed directly on a particular number or numbers are called indoor field bets and bets placed on the sides are called outdoor field bets.

After placing bets, the croupier spins the roulette wheel. The bike also has 37 columns of numbers. Half of the columns are black and half are red. The color of the zero column is green. When the ball stops at a column, the player either wins the victory according to the object’s odds or loses his bet.

Placing bets

In roulette, a player can place their bet on any number (including zero) or more than one number at a time. Roulette is not a game of skill, so it basically doesn’t matter what bet you place – the payout percentage stays the same regardless of the bet.

There are no restrictions on placing bets in any way, but players can place bets on multiple targets during the same round of play. However, there are certain pre-defined items in the game that allow players to place their bets on multiple numbers at once.

  • One number is played simply by placing the chip over the desired number.
  • Two numbers are played by placing a chip between two numbers.
  • Three numbers, or one line, are played by placing a chip on the border of the outermost number in the line.
  • Four numbers are played by placing a chip at the intersection of four numbers. If you want to play the numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3, you can place a bet between zero and one.
  • Six numbers, i.e. two lines, are played by placing a bet between the outermost lines of the two lines and the outer edge.
  • Outdoor field bets on the outer edge of the roulette table allow an even larger number of targets to be played. In terms of the logic of the game, outdoor field bets work just like indoor field bets, ie by playing black, for example, you place a bet on all the numbers in the black column.
  • When playing color, a player can place their bet on all black or all red numbers.
  • When playing Even or Odd, the player places a bet on all even or odd numbers.
  • The bet can also be placed on small or large numbers. Numbers 1-18 are counted as small numbers and the remaining 19-36 are large numbers.
  • Roulette table numbers are divided into three 12-digit columns. When playing a column, the player places their chips below the desired column.
  • The numbers are also divided into three dozen. When playing a dozen, a player can place their bet on the numbers 1-12, 13-24, or 25-36.

Roulette odds

Roulette odds depend on which player the player has placed their bet on. By playing just one number, a win is quite unlikely, so the payouts are naturally higher. Instead, for example, by playing a flush, the player wins in about every second round of the game, so the winning player only gets their bet back twice.

When interpreting the payout table below, please note that the player’s bet will always be refunded. For example, a payout ratio of 1:1 means that the player will first be refunded and then receive a payout equal to his bet. Correspondingly, when playing with a payout ratio of 1:35, the player will be refunded first the bet and then 35 times the stake.

Roulette online

Roulette can also be played at an online casino. Virtually all online casinos have several roulette games to choose from, where you can try your luck against a proven fair number generator. You can also play online roulette for free with play money. Playing in the free demo mode is a great way to experience the game in your own peace.

However, many players miss the atmosphere of a real roulette table and chat with the croupier, as well as fellow players. Nowadays, real roulette can be played elsewhere than at Helsinki Casino, as online casinos have included the so-called live casino games. In a live casino, the player can place their bets from the online casino interface, but the games themselves are played in a real and real casino. Players can watch the game live via video and chat with the game manager. The concept may sound a little whimsical at first, but playing live turns out to be surprisingly fun in the end. Definitely worth a try!

American and French roulette

There are three different variations of the roulette game — European, American and French roulette. Strictly speaking, there are also two different variations of the rules for French roulette, but more on that later.

European roulette is the most common roulette game with no additional rules. In American roulette, the advantage of the house has been increased by adding a second zero sector to the roulette wheel. This, of course, doubles the house’s advantage, so American roulette should be avoided whenever possible.

French roulette, on the other hand, contains additional rules that are advantageous to the player. Players should always choose French roulette if the casino has one. The game uses an additional rule that allows players to return their bets if the winning number in the game round is zero. Additional rules are called ”La Partage” and ”En Prison”. Both rules are not used at the same time, but either rule is used at each roulette table. French roulette is usually played according to the ”La Partage” rules.

When playing with the La Partage rules, players always get back half of their bet if the bet is placed on a 1:1 payout target (e.g., flush or even) and the result of the round is zero.

The En Prison rules, on the other hand, are a little more complicated. These additional rules also apply to a situation where a player has placed a bet on a 1:1 payout target and the game round ends at zero. When using the En Prison rules, the player does not get his bet back, but the chips remain ”captured” on the roulette table. The next round of play is played normally. If a player has won this round of play, he will get his bet back. Correspondingly, the bet is lost if the game round ended in a player’s loss.

French roulette thus halves the interest of the house in the areas covered by the additional rules. By playing black, red, even, odd, large, or small numbers, you can increase your return percentage to as high as 98.65 percent. When playing other items, the return percentage is the same as for standard European roulette, ie 97.3%.

Roulette strategies

Attempts have been made to develop different game strategies and systems for roulette. The best known of these are the Martingale system (or martingale system) and the D`Alembert system derived from it. What these systems have in common, at least, is that they do not work.

Unlike in blackjack, for example, in roulette, the payout percentage for each game option is exactly the same, with a few exceptions. Thus, the choice of stake level or game targets does not give the player any advantage. The only way to increase the roulette payout percentage is to choose French roulette and play only 1:1 payout items.

Martingale

In the Martingale system, a player doubles his bet after each round of play lost. After winning the round, the original bet will be used. The idea of the system is that sooner or later the player wins and gets back the stakes of all the lost rounds. The problem with the Martingale system is that the player will not be able to double their bet indefinitely, but after a long enough losing streak, the money will run out and the player will be forced to interrupt the game.

D`Alembert

The D`Alembert system is based on the Martingale system, but in the event of a loss, the bet is not doubled and is always increased by the original bet. This system tolerates long losing sticks better, but on the other hand, with the D`Alembert system, a player does not win back all his bets after several losing rounds.
